A série BMW Art Cars começou em 75 quando o piloto Hervé Poulain pediu a seu amigo Alexandre Calder para pintar o carro que ele guiaria no Le Mans daquele ano. Desde então, 16 carros foram criados por artistas como Andy Warhol e Robert Rauschenberg.
